TUESDAY MORNING MEETING & THURSDAY EVENING MEETING

Welcomes Guest Speaker Ava Barron-Shasho

"Life Coaching for People with Hearing Loss"

Tuesday, May 21, 2013, 10:30 AM - 12 Noon

Thursday, May 23, 2013 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM

The Power of Change is in YOUR Hands

My approach to Life Coaching is based in the theory and research of Positive Psychology. Scientific studies show that we perform best when we are rewarded and acknowledged for our efforts. Individuals are more likely to feel happier when they are achieving their goals. Coaching helps you achieve your goals by identifying your strengths and using them to bring about change in your life.

Ava Barron-Shasho, MSW is a Life Coach who specializes in working with deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals.  What is life coaching you may ask?  If you have ever felt unmotivated, frustrated or disorganized, life coaching sessions are a time to focus on you. Ava has her Masters in Social Work and a Bachelor's in Psychology and brings 20 years of counseling experience to her Life Coaching practice.  She works with individuals in the Baltimore area and across the country. Her philosophy of life is that change is ALWAYS possible!

Guest Speaker: Beth Wiseman

Please come and welcome Beth Wiseman - one of our new Board members for HLA-GBC.  Beth will share exciting information about what is coming up in the legislative process and what bills are important for people who are Hard of Hearing.

Beth, with her strong interest in legislation and in helping seniors, has become a self-made expert on how to get legislatures interested in bills that help this population.  She believes that if you want something accomplished, you must get the legislators to understand the need.

For ten years Beth has worked and with Baltimore County Association of Senior Citizens Organizations, Inc (BCASCO).  During that time, she has successfully advocated for seniors by teaching our legislatures about important issues for this population.   In addition to submitting testimony on many Bills, Beth meets with Baltimore County State legislators several times a year.

Now that Beth has joined the Board on HLA-GBC, she is developing an Advocacy List for people that are Hard of Hearing.  Beth will teach us the process of a Bill and how easy it is to contact our legislators who very much want to hear from our Hearing Loss Greater Baltimore Chapter.

Hearing Loss Association of Greater Baltimore Chapter meetings are free and open to the public.  Captioning, Assistive Listening Devices and sign language interpretation are provided at evening meetings, whenever possible.
